Great Scot Federer proclaimed
So did you hear? Yeah, it’s true. What’s true? Oh you haven’t heard?!! Andy Murray beat Roger Federer in straight sets today in Cincinatti, OH! This is the first time that he won’t be advancing to a final in 2 years. That’s an unbelievable stat….even worse though, Federer was so close to the Ivan Lendl’s record of 18 straight tournament finals.
Sadly, I didn’t get to watch the match, but if any of you uploaded any video of the match or have found it on YouTube (or other video sharing sites), let me know and I’ll post it here.
What does everyone else think of this? Do you think that Brad Gilbert just has good timing or did he really do something for Murray in 2 weeks? (I’m leaning towards a little of both). What do you think this means for the US Open? (I don’t think this will affect Federer at the Open). We shall soon know!

Well, Federer did look vulnerable last week in a number of matches. And Tennis magazine picked Blake to beat him in the finals of the Open. It seemed like he was veering towards a Tiger Woods like “slump” — that is, something less than total domination. Much as like him, I’m glad to see more competition with outcomes in doubt.

you could tell he is losing interest in the smaller events. he is playing against himself, unless he is playing with Nadal. like Tiger Woods, his challenge comes in the form of a major. He destroyed Gasget at Wimbledon, but was just ho-hum against him in the fianl. his only challenge is history, you will see that in NY in a few weeks. I cant believe TENNIS mag picked Blake to win, but they also chose Roddick to get to the semi’s, even healthy, Roddick will be lucky to get to the second week. Watch out for Gasget to make a run… good tennis to all.

I was quite surprised at that loss as well. Though, kudos to Murray for pulling such an upset.
And I agree that Federer’s chances of winning the US Open won’t significantly change, though, he’s gonna have a little more competition now, seems like.

By the way, how about Murray losing last night to Roddick? What is going on over there in Cincinatti?!!! Murray has never beat Federer, then beats him, Roddick has never beat Murray, then wins last night. I have a feeling things will go more “back to normal” during the Open as all the top players raise their game again!
