Mirza dismisses the importance of fitness

Admitting that fitness was not her forte, Indian ace Sania Mirza said she will continue to make up for that by playing aggressive shots.
“Fitness is not my forte. I cannot be as fit as say (Martina) Hingis or (Elena) Dementieva. Yes, I am going to be more patient. But I have to go for shots, I’ll get some, I’ll miss some,” Sania told newspersons minutes after scripting a convincing straight-set win over Rushmi Chakravarthi in the opening round of the Sunfeast Open. Hindustan Times

Sania Mirza must be crazy - and maybe it is from the unending coverage her career gets in the Indian press. If I were her coach, I would quit after hearing this - fitness isn’t solely about who you are , it is something that you need to work at, as I am sure Dementieva and Hingis do. I’m also sure some people find it easier to get in and stay in shape than others, but that’s no reason to write off being as fit as top players because it isn’t your “forte”. I fully expect her ranking to stay right where it is if she doesn’t put in some more work on something she apparently knows is a weakness.

And, of course, you can surely make up for fitness by playing aggressive shots. Ask Serena Williams about that.

Do the men say things like this?

Sania Mirza is such a sham..The indians need to wake up and realize that Sania Mirza is just a flash in the pan.. the only tournament she has ever won is an ATP title in India which obviously the top ranked players skipped!(the same open where she got trashed 6-0,6-1 by Hingis this time)..or maybe its the Inidan media giving her the demi god status inspite of her achieving anything so far

Sania talks too much. When she does that she has to perform to back-up her incredible talk, that means more pressure. When will this mediocre player realise that the media has been doing what it does best - Build and destroy public figures. Sania’s PR skills need some definition. She goes off-the-hook with statements like ” Fitness is not my forte”, “A Grand Slam is not my goal” and is getting snubbed left-right-centre by critics and the media. She has potential for making money and not winning matches. For beauty and telnt nothing compares to Maria Sharapova, Indian media tried to show up at our door with Sania as the next Maria. Hopeless! Sania needs to control her tongue, because while the fall was imminent it might just come too soon before even she realises it. Then she will get into the movies and even there end up being a B-grade actress because if you ask me, she ain’t even that HOT. She is just good at fleecing the sheep while it lasts. Now things are getting interesting, lets see how “Sania Mania” folds.

    Stupid-Arrogant-Naive-Ignorant-Attitude = SANIA
