Despite safety and injury concerns, Hewitt will play Davis Cup

Wednesday, September 13th, 2006

Hewitt, Australia’s most successful Davis Cup player with 38 singles victories, was reluctant to commit at first because of a knee injury and his dislike of clay courts.

Tennis Australia said it will provide extra security around the Sept. 22-Sept. 24 matches to help alleviate Hewitt’s concerns about how he will be received by the Argentine crowd.

Hewitt has had on-court clashes with several Argentine players, including David Nalbandian and Juan Ignacio Chela.

“The biggest concern is my safety,” he said in July. “The situation has got steadily worse for visiting teams and it takes only one whacko over there to turn things on its head. I’ve got my family to think about and there are issues around the security situation.” ESPN

This semifinal match promises to be very heated - as is nearly everything Hewitt gets himself involved in!

US Open 2006 Visit

Thursday, September 7th, 2006

It has been 3 years since I’ve been to the US Open. Scary that it has been so long, and yet, I seem to be the one without much luck when it comes to the weather. The previous 3 days had been gorgeous and sunny, Labor Day could have been better.

Of course, on Tuesday Sept. 5th, it rained out the whole day except for the first 2 hours. I got to see Murray and Davydenko playing, and was actually quite close to the court because we were in Armstrong stadium. Here are a few pics:

Bollettieri talking before the match:

I have to say, tonight is probably going to be the best night of Tennis with Blake and Federer playing. I love Blake’s non-classic muscle ball that he hits (that forehand is amazing at times). Finally I think Federer will at least have his first formidable foe of the tournament. Let’s see what happens!
