Venus wins Memphis over Peer
Time to catch up - I’ve been juggling a lot of stuff this past weekend.
Well, Venus did come through with the win in Memphis…
“It’s definitely about errors for me and today I didn’t make many,” she said.
“In my opinion, when I am out there playing, it’s all about me. I’m going to play forceful and if I play well my opponent is not having a chance to really have too many plays.
“If I am making too many errors then they are just benefitting from my largesse. Today I didn’t make many errors and was able to dictate.”
Peer said her poor start had left her playing catch-up throughout the match.
“I think I missed the beginning of the match,” the Israeli said, after losing a WTA Tour final for the first time.
“I was not playing good and she got a lot of confidence.”
Peer said she had watched Williams in her semi-final against Laura Granville and had been expecting a few more errors from the former world number one.
“I didn’t see her play like this all this week,” she said. “I think she played her best match of the week today and she is a great player.” Reuters
