Nadal catches a break, claims knee is improving

Maybe the magic laser doctor really is onto something - Nadal isn’t complaining much about his knee and he also caught a break witht he retirement of his last opponent.

Nadal was the only player still upright following the No. 2 seed’s 6-2, 6-3, 3-2, injury default (rib muscle injury) second round victory over No. 56 ranked Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia late last night at Ashe Stadium.

“I feel better. I have confidence in my knees. I ran so much better than in my first round win,” Nadal said after spending one hour and 38 minutes on the court. “I hope my knees will continue to improve. I thought my groundstrokes were improved as well.”

Nadal was economical , winning 84 percent (16 of 19) second serve points. He had 28 winners against 16 unforced errors and was nearly flawless (14 of 15) in net approaches.

Next up for Nadal, who said a finger issue the trainer looked at after the second set was nothing to be concerned about, is Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Stamford Advocate
