Here’s a recent interview with Maria Sharapova:
We caught up with the 20-year-old Siberian beauty, in town for an appearance at the Four Seasons Hotel Miami Saturday for watch giant TAG Heuer. You can also see her in a television spot for Canon shot on Star Island.
Making tons of cash? It’s all in a day’s work.
What are your plans after your tennis career ends?
Right now I am just trying to keep my focus on playing and trying to improve every day. I’m enjoying my work with the United Nations, helping people affected by Chernobyl, so I’d like to continue this type of work. I also have a passion for spas, so I can see myself getting into this business as well.
Has your training level changed with all the travel you do for promotions?
My tennis schedule has never changed. My sponsors understand my commitment and drive to be the best in the world, and they work around my schedule.
Who would be your dream opponent?
I would have loved to play Billie Jean King. She is such an amazing icon. I don’t look at the draw, but I like playing all the best players. I love to compete.
How do you like it here?
Miami is very special to me because it’s the first city that my father and I arrived [to] in the United States when I was 7 years old. I love playing the Sony Ericsson Open — they have great fans and it is such a diverse crowd. It’s fun to see all the fans supporting their players from different countries. Miami Herald
