Blake comments on Plexicushion

I think there is a small jab at Hewitt in these comments that james Blake recently made - or maybe it is directed at Tennis Australia, the organizing body who has eems to bend over backwards to please Hewitt.

The American said the surface was slower than expected and he was interested in how his rivals, such as Hewitt, who prefer a fast surface, will perform on the new court.

The world No. 13 had spent the past three days practising on the surface at the Sydney International Tennis Centre.

“I’m feeling like I’ve got used to these new courts, it’s a good feeling so far,” Blake said. “It’s a little slower than I actually expected. I thought it was going to be a lot quicker. I figured they did this in part, I think, to help some of the Aussie players, especially, obviously Lleyton, and I figured he liked a quicker court. I thought it was going to be a little lower-bouncing and quicker. But it feels like it grips the ball pretty well and takes spin pretty well. It will be interesting to see how the guys adjust to this (compared with) the Rebound Ace.

“To me it seems somewhat similar to the hardcourts of North America, so it should be good.” The Age
