Davenport tops prize money earnings list

The American tennis player Lindsay Davenport has surpassed Steffi Graf as the all-time leading prize-money winner in women’s sport with a triumphant return to the Australian Open yesterday.
Making her first grand slam appearance since the 2006 US Open, Davenport continued her stunning comeback with a 3-set first-round victory over Italian Sara Errani.
The former world number ones 19th success from 20 matches followed the birth last June of her first child - son Jagger - boosted her earnings to almost 22 million US dollars, eclipsing the amount that Graf amassed during her glittering career. Radio NZ
