Federer into second round
Number one seed Roger Federer has breezed through his opening match as expected, demolishing Argentine Diego Hartfield in straight sets 6-0 6-3 6-0.
It was a typically polished display from the Swiss master as he handed down 38 winners to an increasingly dejected Hartfield.
There were no signs of any illness from Federer as he looked like a well oiled machine, if anything, the layoff seemed to strengthen his game.
‘I think I really played pretty tough [tonight], I was really happy [with] the way things went. I served especially well, which I think is also important for me’, Federer said.
It wasn’t until the tenth game of the match that the Argentine got off the mark, winning his service game to love, drawing rapturous applause from the crowd.
Although the scoreline suggests a very one-sided contest, Hartfield did at times push Federer and had a break point in the second set. AO
