I’m not dead…

Wednesday, April 18th, 2007

I finally finished school (well, one grade is still out, but I think I passed) and my taxes and a whole bunch of other projects that took me away from this. Look for new news coming soon! Apologies for all the missed content.

Mesh Tennis - VA Beach style

Tuesday, September 26th, 2006

I was on a trip in Virginia this past week, and basically drove all across the state forming a triangle between Northern Virginia, Blacksburg, and Virginia Beach. It was there in Virginia Beach that Shaun helped me organize the first Mesh Tennis meetup since there are a lot of active Mesh Tennis users there (you can view these players here in the Virginia Beach Tennis Players group).

All I have to say it was awesome. It was great to meet everyone, hit around, get some good feedback about the site, and just get to know you all a little better. It was even cooler to see everyone, all at different playing abilities, mixing and matching their hitting partners, and just having fun. Marc, thanks for bringing the radar gun! I’m definitely going to find one off eBay for future events ;)

Here are some pictures from the event:

Some of you mentioned that you wanted to buy the Mesh Tennis T-Shirts! Well I made a quick online way for you to get them.

Mesh Tennis on CafePress

There’s a regular T-shirt and a sleeveless. They use the same logo as my shirt on Saturday (but it has to be smaller on the sleeveless apparently). Grab these originals!

Play Listings - less work for you

Sunday, August 27th, 2006

Tonight, I’m releasing a new but simple feature that I hope will help everyone on the site get a chance to play more tennis with their busy schedules. I’ve noticed that people just like to put out there what they’re looking for (such as Craigslist) in terms of playing Tennis, and yet, even with the message boards provided on the site, people don’t do that. They’ll just go in search of people in their area and try to agree on a time to play.

Well, here’s a shoutout to NYC user Phil for giving me the idea that the message boards are too permanent and there should be some kind of temporary, “hey, I want to play here at such and such a time. Contact me if you can play then.” Well, Phil, it’s here :)

There is a new “listings” link in the top URL next to the search link (and in the Find section of the bottom navigation). Basically, the listings page will automatically show you who’s posted a listing within 50 miles of you! If there are none, you can search in other cities for more listings.

Lastly, the play listings have also been incorporated into Groups (providing they have a city and state filled in), so you can find people in your Groups that are looking to play.

Please let me know if how you like the feature, any feedback on usability, and anything else you may think! Thanks.

Just a quick notice, you can now delete matches that you’ve recorded.  Now get out there and play!

New Feature - Tennis Blogs

Thursday, July 6th, 2006

We’ve just released a new feature in which Mesh Tennis now pulls in tennis related blogs for your reading pleasure! Our first participating blog is the Pro Tennis Fan blog! You can read all the posts from the blog, submit comments on the content and even join the blog as a reader, showing your support (and of course see who else is reading that blog). We’ll be adding more blogs in the near future and are looking forward to hearing from users about any tennis related blogs you’d like to see pulled into Mesh Tennis (including your own). Thanks and happy reading.

Find Courts near you

Friday, June 9th, 2006

So I released a new feature in the past 2 days, finding courts. I’ve noticed that one of the hardest things for users of the site is a) scheduling when to play and b) where to play.

To handle the where part, I thought it would be great if people actually found the exact location of the courts on a Google Map (using the Satellite images) so that people can see the court, and then figure out how to get there and how far it is from them.

So, all I ask of you is, create the courts on the site that you play at. Once you do this, everyone will be able to find the courts you registered, and also add them to THEIR list of courts! You will then be able to see who also plays at the same court as you!! That will make it easier in finding accessible partners.

I will also be integrating the courts in your area into other parts of the site (such as messages and groups)

Let me know if you all have any feedback or questions about the Courts feature, thanks.

Videos

Sunday, May 21st, 2006

We’ve put a new Videos section into Mesh Tennis! That’s right, your very own video search engine with a couple of preselected searches of pro players. The video quality depends on the original source, but a lot of them are quite good and once you start watching things like Federer’s Fun House, you just want to find more! Do let me know what you think of this section.

Weather to show

Saturday, May 20th, 2006

Now when you log into Mesh Tennis, you will see the weather for your local area so you don’t have to go looking for it if you’re planning to hit with someone. The weather will also be integrated into other spots like Groups and Events.

Schedule an Event

Wednesday, May 17th, 2006

The Events feature is now live. You can schedule an Event for pretty much anything you want. Schedule it for a hitting session with someone, schedule a match, a tournament, a social gathering, whatever you feel like. An Event can be hosted by you, or by a group that you’re in (the Admin must create the event for closed-access Groups).

You’ll see the events that you’ve created, and the events of any groups that you’re a member of, in the My Events section on the left. Start scheduling away!

Groups!

Wednesday, May 10th, 2006

The Groups feature is now public on the site. The Groups feature lets anyone create a group that others can join and collaborate in. There are a few different types of Groups to make it easier for searching and organizing. Some of them include:

- Team (different types)

- Forum

- General Interest

- Club

- Court

You can create a court as a group so that when people join that group, it’s an indication that they play at that court. You can create a Forum for anything you’d like to talk about. Groups can pretty much be anything and everything so have fun with it.
